SolarX|Works Applied Solar Solutions

Extreme heat is an escalating disaster

And it’s only getting hotter…

Introducing KulSun, a solar people cooling solution

Designed with portability in mind, the KulSun solar-powered cooling system and shelter will change how you manage dangerously hot conditions.

Our focus: Applied Solar

At SolarX|Works, we aren’t focused on rooftop solar. We leverage solar technology to solve significant global problems.

Where it began, the xCOLD Prototype

A proven and capable system, our patented, 100% off-grid capable, refrigeration and cooling system is designed to last the elements.

SolarXOS

Our patented intelligent power management and control system prioritizes multiple power inputs and outputs for not only the xCOLD but larger microgrids and beyond.

Applications

People Cooling, Air Conditioning, and Climate Controlled Spaces

KulSun can be quickly deployed to provide off-grid/renewable energy-powered cooling shelters for those most at risk of heat-related illnesses

33%

of us workers exposed to outdoors

In the US alone, 33% of all workers are exposed to the outdoors during the job

-2%

lost labor productivity

For every 1.8°F (1°C) rise in temperature above room temperature, there is a -2% loss to labor productivity

$79,000

potential heat prostration cost

According to OSHA, a single case of heat prostration can cost a business up to $79,000

Infield Pre-cooling

The xCOLD technology provides “first mile” cooling closer to areas of production and harvest—decreasing operating costs and increasing crop yield and revenue

50%

Post-harvest loss

In certain parts of the world, up to 50% of harvested product is lost to spoilage before it ever reaches the market

10 billion

10 billion people to feed

By 2050, we will need to be able to feed an estimated 10 billion people in the world—and we can’t only grow more food

$44 billion

Post-harvest waste in the U.S.

It is estimated that there is $44 billion in post-harvest waste in the U.S. that pre-cooling could help reduce

Other Applications

over the road refrigeration

Perishables have to move. And if they aren’t preserved, they need to be refrigerated throughout their journey to reduce spoilage/loss. This is typically done via refrigerated trailers called “reefers”. These refrigerated trailers run on diesel, which is expensive and causes additional greenhouse gas emissions. The SolarX Works xCOLD’s flexible design means it can be attached to a trailer and run on solar and/or batteries. Just attached solar panels to the top of the trailer roof and you are cooling on clean energy. And as semi-trucks move to EV, the xCOLD can run on the EV battery power as backup.

Last MILE food storage

Once food reaches the retailer or restaurant, it still needs temperature control until it is purchased by the consumer. Almost all refrigeration at this point runs on the conventional energy grid—which depending on the energy source, could be powered by fossil fuels. The SolarX Works xCOLD system could power a restaurant’s walk-in freezer/cooler or a grocery store’s refrigerated aisles—reducing the carbon footprint and reducing energy cost that most would considered fixed and typically hard to reduce.

Engineers estimate that sunlight could provide 10,000 times the amount of energy needed to fulfill humanity’s current needs. The challenge is, and has always been, to find ways of capturing this abundant energy cost effectively.
